Jane
“Jane” is a tribute to the unseen spirits and vibrant life within the Olbrich Gardens, named after my grandmother whose beautiful garden she meticulously cared for at her home in Madison. The double entendre of the name “Jane” also honors those lost to time, remembering every ‘Jane Doe’ whose spirit has been forgotten and stories remain untold. Especially those in wars at home and abroad. This installation consists of a custom array of 8000 hand sewn tiny LEDs and wind chimes hanging within a metal atrium and hovering above the sunken gardens. The billowing of the wind and motion of the lights will be visible twinkling among the water lilies, creating moments of reflection. The sculptures show has a custom score by @lukemombrea lasting 13mins. The animations are derived from of 3D scans of flowers from the Olbrich Garden and cell systems multiplying and mutating within the volumetric array of lights.
